Biochemistry

Biochemistry is a branch of science that focuses on investigating the chemical substances that occur in humans, animals, plants and other life forms, and the chemical processes that continue throughout the life cycle of living things. Whether primitive or advanced, all life forms have a unique chemistry, all of which falls within the scope of biochemistry. Every substance isolated from tissues of a live creature serves a function in that creature’s body, and everything works in harmony. Clinical biochemistry deals with diagnosis of disease, distinguishing between similar diseases and monitoring the progress of disease by qualitative and quantitative analysis of various bodily fluids, secretions and tissue samples. Results of clinical biochemistry may inform or guide diagnosis.

Besides the complementary role that clinical biochemistry plays in diagnosing disease, it is also very important for prophylactic care. Clinical biochemistry workups can help identify parameters that enable early detection of disease before onset of symptoms, making it possible to take appropriate action.
