General Surgery

General surgery deals with surgical treatment of general or local problems, as well as wounds and healing of wounds.

SCOPE OF GENERAL SURGERY:

  • Breast conditions and cancer (e.g. oncoplastic breast surgery, mastectomy by frozen and implant within the same session, sentinel lymph node biopsy)
  • Thyroid disease and cancer (with nerve monitoring to prevent damage to voice cords and hoarseness)
  • Surgical disorders of skin
  • Gastric disorders and cancer
  • Colon disorders and cancer
  • Gallbladder disorders (e.g. closed gallbladder surgery, laparoscopic cholecystectomy)
  • Abdominal, inguinal and umbilical hernias (may be combined with abdominoplasty in excessively overweight patients with umbilical or abdominal hernias)
  • Proctologic conditions such as hemorrhoids, anal fistulas or anal fissures (including by laser surgery where indicated)
  • Gastroscopy and colonoscopy of colon and stomach (possibly with same-session removal of any polyps detected)
  • Implantation of intragastric balloon

ONCOPLASTIC BREAST SURGERY

Treatment of breast cancer does not necessarily require complete mastectomy. “Oncoplastic Breast Surgery” involves treatment of breast cancer surgically as indicated for cancer, and leaving the remaining part of the breast with an aesthetical appearance.

During bilateral breast reduction surgery of larger breasts and after removal of cancerous tissue with healthy contours, frozen examination is used to provide an aesthetic appearance to the non-cancerous tissue. In the case of smaller breasts, the breast interior is completely removed and replaced with a silicon prosthesis by plastic surgery.

Our General Surgery Department offers diagnostic and therapeutic services with a staff of proficient physicians in outpatient and inpatient care settings.
