Urology

Urology is a branch of medicine that deals with male and female genitalia, urinary tract and the diseases that affect them. It focuses on the reproduction and excretion systems in males, and the excretion system in females.

  • Kidney Stones

A kidney stone is formed when molecules which are excreted by urine and having a potential to form kidney stones accumulate, and new molecules attach to them. Turkey is endemic for kidney stones, which have a prevalence of 12% in the general population. Genetic predisposition is a key factor, and those who have kidney stones in their family are 2.5-fold more likely to have it.

  • Prostate Cancer

Although environmental factors, diet, lifestyle and genetic makeup are considered to be the main culprits for prostate cancer, the specific causes that lead to it are not fully known.

  • Prostate Enlargement

Prostate is a small organ, about the size of a chestnut, located just beneath the bladder, and the urinary tract passes through it. It is congenitally present in all males. An enlarged prostate is usually benign. The enlargement process begins at late 40s and continuous through life. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) occurs with advanced age, although the exact cause is unknown.
