Internal medicine covers most sub-branches of medicine. Internists see adult patients, i.e. aged older than 18 years. An internist must first complete a 6 years bachelor’s program in medicine, followed by 5 years of residence at the Internal Medicine Department of a teaching hospital to qualify as an internist.
